Owl Shapeshifter 9/29

This week we got to dissect owl pellets and we got to make them into something cool. Aidan and I were working together this class and we got one pellet each. The first thing I saw was a giant skull. Shane said it was the biggest skull she had seen while doing this activity. There were so many bones!!!! I just kept looking and they just kept coming. Some people might think that owl pellets is owl poo but it is actually owl barf. When the owl gets the mouse or other animal, it swallows it whole, so the things that can’t be digested, the owl barfs up. The next class we got to make a creature out of the bones that we found. We put three skulls together and made a flowing sort of look. It looked really cool. we decided it was a shapeshifter (like the mimic octopus).

Does the owl hate throwing up?

Can owls see color?

If they can, what is their favorite color?

9/22 Alka Seltzer Blast Off!!!

This week we got to make rockets. Yes, rockets. I got teamed up with Lizzie and it was awesome! We thought that sprite would blast off faster because the sprite was already carbonated. We used half a tablet of Alka Seltzer and 10 mL of water first. We found out that water is less reliable because when we did the same test three times each time we got different results.

Next, we used SPRITE and half tablet of Alka Seltzer. we learned that sprite did not go faster but it was more reliable, so it went off around the same times as the ones before.

We spent the rest of the class experimenting all different ways we could use the sprite and Alka seltzer. We used sprite the rest of the time and we used different amounts of Alka seltzer. we used a 1/4 tablet, a full tablet, half tablet, and 2 full tablets. We had to reuse some tablets because we were running out, so we had to use the tablets that came from the bottle that we had already used. although reusing the tablets was not accurate, it was still fun! We did not want the class to end.
